How does it work?
A cosmetic/medical tattooing machine is used to gently implant pigment into the lip using very small needles. It’s different from a regular tattoo machine in that the frequency is much lower, meaning the pigment is implanted closer to the surface.

Pre-Treatment Care
- Gently scrub and start to use lip balm/Vaseline a few days before treatment to make your lips soft and smooth; it is not possible to inject the pigment into areas of dry skin
- Don’t consume Vitamin C for 1 day before treatment
- On the day of treatment, avoid tea/coffee, alcohol, aspirin, advil, and other blood-thinning medications
- If you have a history of Herpes virus, cold sores or any type of sore on the lips, you may have a recurrence after lip semi-permanent makeup. For best results, ask your doctor for a prescription for Zovirax, Famvir, or Valtrex. Start to use the pills 2 days before the treatment and continue after for 3-5 days.
Post-Treatment Care
- Clean your lips 2-3 times per day with antiseptic and moisturize with aftercare cream for 10 days
- In the case of swelling or bruising, use an icepack (wrapped in something clean) and/or take Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation
- For the first few days, use a straw while drinking and avoid overly salty food, spicy food and very hot or cold drinks
- Don’t touch, bite or scratch your lips – touching or picking could cause irritation, infection & loss of pigment
- Don’t exercise for at least 2-5 days after your treatment due to sweating; gentle exercise is okay after the first few days
- Avoid lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss, cleansers, lotions etc. on or close to your lips for 1-2 weeks to avoid irritation and cross-contamination
- Do not clean your lips with makeup remover
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms or swimming pools for 1 week
- Don’t have facials or other face beauty treatments for 1 week to avoid irritation
- Avoid chemical peels until your lips are fully healed
- Don’t get lip fillers for 14 days from day of treatment
- Don’t use anti-aging creams, chemical peels, acids or retinoids on or close to your lips at any time until fully healed
